Health Promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behaviour towards assuring a social, physical, and policy environment that promotes health.

The Healthy Cities movement is a way to achieve health promotion at municipal levels. It focuses on creating healthy settings—schools, workplaces, homes, and public places.  Health promotion is a process of working together to assure conditions for health that can be integrated into municipal governance.
